Abstract

This report presents the findings of a review of a landslide (Incident No. 2005/06/0181) which occurred on slope No. 7SW-C/CR564 and an adjoining sloping ground to the north of Tze Chuk Lam, Fu Yung Shan, Tsuen Wan on 24 June 2005. The incident involved the failure of an approximately 5.5 m high slope portion and a 2 m high masonry toe wall, with a total failure volume of about 100 m3. The failed mass hit a squatter structure at the slope toe, broke two columns of the structure and piled up against the rear wall which was severely damaged. A portion of a flimsy squatter structure at the crest of the sloping ground in the western end was undermined. Both the squatter structures were evacuated as a result of the incident. No casualties were involved.

The key objectives of this review were to document the facts about the incident and to present relevant background information and pertinent site observations made under this review. The scope of the review does not include any ground investigation or detailed diagnosis of the causes of the incident. Recommendations for follow-up actions are reported separately.
