Abstract

This report presents the findings of a detailed study of a landslide incident (GEO Incident No. 2000/08/09) that occurred on 27 August 2000 on the southern portion of slope No. 11NW-A/FR43 below Castle Peak Road near Lai Chi Kok Hospital. The incident involved the bursting of a buried high-pressure watermain and local slope failure. No casualties or disruption to traffic were reported as a result of the incident.

The key objectives of the detailed study were to document the facts about the landslide, present relevant background information and establish the probable causes of the landslide. The scope of the study is generally limited to site reconnaissance, site investigation and desk study. Recommendations for follow-up actions are reported separately.
