Abstract

This report documents the second phase of a research project aim at quantifying the effects of matric suction on shear strength of a saprolitic soil from Hong Kong. It presents the results of research into the effects of matric suction on the shear strength of a coarse-grained saprolitic soil by carrying out direct shear and triaxial tests on saturated as well as unsaturated specimens. The soil tested was a completely decomposed granite from Shouson Hill, Hong Kong.
