Cross Bay Link, Tseung Kwan O – Main Bridge and Associated Works awarded Runner-up of the “NEC Martin Barnes Awards 2024" under Project Excellence and Innovation Category

The Cross Bay Link has earned recognition as the Runner-up for the NEC Martin Barnes Awards 2024 in the category of Recognising Project Excellence and Innovation. This award highlights engineering projects that embrace innovative construction techniques and materials to tackle environmental challenges. Civil Engineering and Development Department applied numerous advanced methods in the Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link project, enhancing construction quality and safety while significantly reducing construction time. The main span of the bridge utilized S690QL high-strength structural steel, which reduced the weight of the bridge's steel structure, and the material savings have also reduced around 20% carbon emissions. The project also extensively employed off-site prefabrication, streamlining the installation process. Additionally, the innovative "Float-over Method" was implemented to position the steel bridge during optimal tidal and environmental conditions.
