Cross Bay Link, Tseung Kwan O – Main Bridge and Associated Works awarded Merit of the “HKIE Grand Award 2023" in the Infrastructure Category

The Tseung Kwan O Cross Bay Link is the first marine overpass in Hong Kong to feature lanes for carriageway, cycle track, and footpath simultaneously, with a 200 meters main span. The bridge adopts a theme concept of "Eternity Arch". Its most distinctive feature is the innovative construction technique using Grade S690QL high-strength steel for the steel arch, marking the first time this strength of steel has been used in a bridge in Hong Kong. The purpose of The Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Grand Award is intended to praise the innovative engineering technologies and applications, and the Cross Bay Link perfectly exemplifies this with its innovative use of Grade S690QL high-strength steel. Not only has this reduced the weight of the bridge's steel structure, significantly saving labor needs, but the material savings have also reduced around 20% carbon emissions.
