In the Greater Bay Area (GBA) Urban Design Awards 2024 awards presentation ceremony held on 30 May 2025, the East Coast Boardwalk project implemented by CEDD won the Grand Award for the professional category (planned project), which was the most prestigious honour in the GBA Urban Design Awards 2024. The award was jointly received by CEDD and three other organizations participated in the project, namely Development Bureau, Planning Department, and Meinhardt Infrastructure and Environment Limited.
The GBA Urban Design Awards aims at elevating the overall urban design standard in the GBA through recognising excellence in urban design related projects in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA and fostering collaboration and exchange among urban designers, planners, architects, landscape architects, engineers, surveyors and other urban design professionals, companies and organisations in the GBA. The achievement of the East Coast Boardwalk in winning the Grand Award for the professional category (planned project) affirms the outstanding performance of the project team on urban design in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao GBA.
With a total length of about 2.2 km, the East Coast Boardwalk is a critical harbourfront facility defining the shoreline of Hong Kong Island North by ingeniously utilising the space underneath the Island Eastern Corridor. It is divided into the eastern and western sections. The western section, approximately 1.1km long connecting the East Coast Park Precinct and the North Point Promenade (NPP), was opened in January 2025. The eastern section, approximately 1.1km long connecting Hoi Yu Street in Quarry Bay from the NPP, is scheduled for completion by end-2025. Upon the full opening of the Boardwalk, there will be a continuous harbourfront of some 13 km long, spanning from Kennedy Town to Shau Kei Wan.
