Tung Chung New Town Extension - Tung Chung New Town Extension - Open Space Development in Tung Chung East project was awarded The Hong Kong Institute of Planners Awards 2023 - Certificate of Merit
Date of Award: 27/11/2024
We are delighted that the Open Space Development in Tung Chung East project of Tung Chung New Town Extension (TCNTE) was awarded the Certificate of Merit in the Hong Kong Institute of Planners Awards 2023.
At the project's design stage, CEDD partnered with PlanD to develop the Active Design Guidelines by incorporating active design objectives into the design of the open space. The Active Design Guidelines, which the PlanD formulates, aim to make Hong Kong a 'healthy and revitalised city' as championed in the Hong Kong 2030+ Study, hoping to facilitate the community's change of lifestyle to be more active.
At a neighbourhood level, the future open space of Tung Chung East New Town Extension demonstrates the forward-looking approach of integrating active design principles into a new works project right from its early planning and design stage. Key principles outlined in the Guidelines were embodied in the project, for example, the children's play areas, waterfront promenade, iconic viewing pavilions, activity lawns and easily accessible eco-shorelines, which encourage park users to enjoy physical exercise along the promenade and across the extensive park network.
These features will visualise active design elements in the vibrant and connected open space network, encouraging public enjoyment of the waterfront promenade and the green space in the Tung Chung East community.
