We are delighted that the Open Space Development in Tung Chung East project of Tung Chung New Town Extension (TCNTE) was awarded the Gold Award in the Hong Kong Institute of Landscape Architects Awards 2024.
The Open Space Development at Tung Chung New Town Extension (East) offers a holistic and unique outdoor experience by amalgamating nature, leisure, and "future". The excellent landscape design enhances the waterfront and inland public spaces, creating distinct areas that promote a harmonious relationship between urban life and nature, encouraging recreation and enhancing biodiversity.
The Open Space Development will provide a waterfront promenade, the central green, linear parks and a cycle park cum skatepark, forming a network that strengthens ecological connections along the waterfront, linking with the Eco-shoreline.
Public engagement and children's participation activities were organised in the design stage of Children's Play Spaces, fostering community building and providing suitable themed play space design that suits the community's needs. Ecological enhancement strategy is implemented with well-designed ecological corridors and ecological refuges to create habitats that include various layers of plantings that provide food for birds and nectar for butterflies. The bioswales are part of the sustainable drainage system (SuDS), facilitating stormwater infiltration and temporary runoff storage.
These features will provide a public open space with a welcoming and attractive image, an enjoyable and relaxing environment, and a sustainable, ecologically friendly, and healthy space for all, making the Tung Chung East Open Space a genuinely unique and exciting project that benefits the community.
