The First Permanent Exhibition on Hong Kong Slope Safety and Disasters Preparedness – Achievement, at Chengdu University of Technology, Sichuan

27/10/2018

With the support of the government of Sichuan Province, CEDD held the first permanent exhibition on Hong Kong Slope Safety and Disasters Preparedness – Achievement as requested by Chengdu University of Technology, Sichuan. The opening ceremony was conducted on 27 October 2018.

Although Hong Kong and Sichuan are miles apart and have different landform, we share the same geological threat – landslides and debris flow. Just in the same year of the Wenchuan earthquake, Lantau Island was hit by a severe rainstorm in June 2008 that triggered over 2000 landslides and debris flows.

As such, CEDD set up the first permanent exhibition in Sichuan to introduce the Hong Kong Slope Safety System, and share our achievement in landslides prevention, mitigation and preparedness. This exhibition not only consolidates partnership with the government of Sichuan Province, it also ensures sustainable development of disasters preparedness in both regions in the long run.
