Abstract

This report is the first volume of a set of three reports on the phase 2 study of performance of hydraulic fill in Hong Kong. The phase 1 study has been published as GEO Report No. 40.

In Phase 1 of the study, the behaviour of hydraulic fill sands from West Kowloon (CS1), Tseung Kwan O (TKO) and Tin Shui Wai (TSW) were evaluated and their responses to the various types of loadings were studied. In Phase 2, a similar study of sands from Tung Chung (TC) and Chek Lap Kok (CLK) was conducted including a literature review; site visits and interviews; stress chamber tests; field tests; laboratory tests; and the inclusion of the state parameter concept in forming a theoretical framework to interpret the operation and control of placement of hydraulic sand fill.
