This atlas provides the most up-to-date
account of the concentration and distribution
of selected chemical elements in the surface environment.
It contains baseline data from approximately 2200
stream sediment sample sites across the Hong Kong
SAR. This information is stored on the Planning
Division's
Geological Modelling System.
Potential applications of the geochemical data
include land use planning, environmental monitoring
and pollution control, waste management, the recognition
of the effects of trace element deficiency or
toxicity on crops, and various aspects of human
and animal health.
