Port Works Division
 

The Port Works Division is headed by the Chief Engineer/Port Works, and has a total establishment of about 125 staff of whom some 28 are professional civil engineers. The main areas of activity are:

* The District Section is responsible for providing Marine Works Advisory Service.
* The two Maintenance Sections are responsible for providing Port Maintenance Service and establishment of a port maintenance information system.
* The three Project Sections are responsible for reconstructing aged piers in Hong Kong and construction of Sai Kung New Public Pier.

Reconstruction of aged piers in Hong Kong

Reconstruction of Sha Tau Kok, Wong Shek, Ko Lau Wan,
Sham Chung and Lai Chi Chong Public Piers

This project is for the reconstruction of five existing public piers at Sha Tau Kok, Wong Shek, Ko Lau Wan, Sham Chung and Lai Chi Chong. These five piers were constructed in 1960s using prestressed concrete members and had been found to be in deteriorating condition. Temporary repair works were carried out to maintain the short term. The reconstruction works for the three public piers at Sha Tau Kok, Wong Shek and Ko Lau Wan has commenced in late 2004 for completion by late 2006.

Construction of Sai Kung New Public Pier

Port Works Division was responsible for the design and construction of Sai Kung New Public Pier. The scope of works included construction of a 12 m wide by 50 m long concrete pier head and a 7 m wide by 30 m long catwalk, roof covers and lighting system. The whole construction was completed in early 2009. The new pier is now opened for public use.
