Tsuen Wan New Town |

Tsuen Wan New Town includes Tsuen Wan, Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi
Island with a total development area of about 3 285
hectares. The population of the new town is expected
to rise to about 857,000 in 2016.
The new town has Hong Kong's container terminals in Kwai Chung and
Tsing Yi district. Container Terminal 9 in Southeast Tsing Yi has
been completed for operation in late 2004. The back-up area and
infrastructure works for Container Terminal 9 has also been completed
in stages from late 2004 to mid 2005. The MTR West Rail, with one
station in Tsuen Wan West, has been put into operation adding another
convenient mass transit facility to connect the new town with the
urban area.
Major highway projects are being constructed or planned
to further extend and reinforce the main road network.
Construction of part of the rationalized Route 8 between
Tsing Yi and Cheung Sha Wan is in progress and is scheduled
for completion in mid 2009. The main line of the remaining
section of Route 9 between Shek Wai Kok and Chai Wan
Kok was opened to public in February 2007 while construction
of its remaining works is scheduled for final completion
in the 1th quarter of 2009. The works contract for widening
of Yeung Uk Road between Tai Ho Road and Ma Tau Pa Road
has commenced in october 2008 and for completion in
end 2011. The preliminary design for the provision of
Tsuen Wan Bypass between Tuen Mun Road and Tsuen Tsing
Interchange as well as the widening of Tsuen Wan Road
between Tsuen Tsing and Kwai Tsing interchanges are
in progress. Construction works are tentatively planned
to commence in 2011 for completion in 2015. Construction
works for retrofitting of noise barriers on Cheung Pei
Shan Road is in progress and is anticipated to be completed
in 2009.
